Nadal gets revenge

Rafael Nadal got a little revenge on Tuesday when he barely survived a three set match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth round at Indian Wells. Nadal won 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 7-5 and will face American James Blake later today. Nadal had lost to Tsonga during the Frenchman’s incredible run to the finals of the Australian Open earlier this year.

Nadal is the defending champion at the Pacific Life Open, so he definitely knows what it takes to win this event. More importantly, he knows that he needs to win to keep up with Federer for the world’s #1 ranking. Since Nadal won the tournament last year, he has to defend all his points. Federer, who lost in the second round last year, is gaining points as I type. Nadal is closer than he has ever been before to FedEx, but with a Federer title here and maybe one in Miami that lead may be expanding.
