Serbia vs. Russia
Well, the finals of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells will be between a Serbian and a Russian, we just don’t know which ones it will be. Considering that four out of the top five players on the WTA Tour are either Russian or Serbian, what did you expect?
On the top half of the draw, top-seeded Ana Ivanovic will face fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic and 0n the bottom half Sharapova will take on Kuznetsova. Jankovic got a win when Lindsay Davenport retired in the second set with a back injury. That is a tough break for Lindsay, who hadn’t really been seriously challenged in this tournament. For Jankovic, she will be looking to improve her record against Ivanovic, as she is 1-4 against her thus far.
We could see a rematch of the Australian Open final, where Sharapova was just simply too much for Ivanovic. There would be plenty of hype surrounding that match for a multitude of reasons. Again, hard to pick against Sharapova this year. She has been the best player on tour and that is exemplified by her perfect record. Until she loses, she is the pick.
