Gone Fishing

Before the tournament if you had to pick one American that would be left in the semifinals at Indian Wells (on either side of the draw) not many of you would have picked Mardy Fish. But after his 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(4) triumph over David Nalbandian he stands as the only remaining American. With Roddick, Blake, and Davenport playing and being seeded, Fish was certainly not garnering much attention coming in. But he has now beaten four seeded players in a row, including two of the world’s top 10 (Davydenko and Nalbandian). If he really wants to make some noise, he can add a fifth player to that list – Roger Federer (whom he is 0-5 against in his career). A win over FedEx would be a huge confidence boost for the 98th ranked player in the world, as he hasn’t been to a final since August of last year. We will have to see if he can cast his net over the biggest predator in the sea…puns fully intended.

Check out Mardy’s post-match interview…
