Lisicki dominates, Vaidisova dominated
Today was a tail of two NBTA players. Both played on Court 4, one of them won, one of them lost. They day began with Sabine Lisicki taking on lucky loser Mariya Koryttseva, and it didn’t take long for Lisicki to show why people are so high on her. She jumped out to an early lead and cruised in the first set, winning it 6-1. The second set was a bit different, as Koryttseva started to find her groove and she was able to brake the powerful Lisicki serve a couple of times. Everytime she would break, Lisicki would break right back though. Lisicki went on to win the second set 7-5, and she will now play Anna Chakvetadze in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open.
This will be a good test for Lisicki, who has shown she is capable of playing with the top girls. She definitely has the game from the baseline to compete with Chakvetadze, but she is going to have to serve well and not make many unforced errors. Lisicki has a big serve, but she is struggling with her toss right now and is committing too many double faults. Chakvetadze is going to make you beat her, but she isn’t going to overpower Sabine. We are looking forward to the match tremendously.
After the match Nick spoke to Sabine to congratulate her and here is a picture…
Later on that day, Nicole Vaidisova took the court against former Bollettieri student Alisa Kleybanova. The two stayed on serve throughout the first set, but at 4-5 Vaidisova was broken and Kleybanova took the first set. In the second set, it was all Kleybanova and she pretty much did anything and everything she wanted against the former Top-10 player. Kleybanova had 13 aces and didn’t face a break point in the entire match. Vaidisova looked flustered and unhappy throughout the match, and this translated to poor play on the tennis court. This is now two tournaments in a row that Vaidisova has lost her first match. She has had some off-court distractions recently, but she needs to get focused again if she wants to be a serious threat week in and week out.

Is Vaidisova still living at the IMG Academy in Bradenton?
