Sony Ericsson Thoughts - Sunday, March 30th

A couple thoughts from today’s action:

  • James Blake and Fabrice Santoro played an incredible match today in the main stadium. We told you it was a must-watch, and it was! The way Santoro plays is ridiclous. He is absolutely a joy to watch, and Blake didn’t disappoint either. He won the match 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 and is now in the fourth round. This is the kind of match that makes tennis special. Also, congrats to our first Nick’s Pick’em winner, Gina! She will be getting a special Bollettieri Prize Pack. Stay tuned for more contests throughout the tournament.
  • Lindsay Davenport proved once again why she is a former #1 player in the world. She downed Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-2 today in the main stadium in just over an hour and fifteen minutes. I guess we won’t be having last week’s Indian Wells champion win the title here on the women’s side either.
  • Two players that train at the Academy, Radek Stepanek and Xavier Malisse, faced off today and it was Stepanek that came out victorious. Malisse had two big wins coming into the match (including one over Nalbandian), but Stepanek had just a little more and won the match 6-3, 7-6(4). Good tourney for Malisse, nice to see him playing well again.
  • If you get a chance, check out Caroline Wozniacki. She is only 17-years old, but she is darn good. She moves well, has a nice two-handed backhand slice, and is very smart. She changes pace and has the ability to keep her opponents off-guard throughout the match. She defeated Katarina Srebotnik today, and is in the fourth round now. Keep your eye out for this young one.
  • Finally, good luck to NBTA student Sabine Lisicki tonight against Anna Chakvetadze!!
