Lisicki continues impressive run
The match didn’t start until right around 11pm, but for those fans that stayed, they were treated to the great play of NBTA student Sabine Lisicki. She was playing what amounted to the biggest match of her life. At the age of 18, she was facing the fifth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze in the main stadium of the fifth-biggest tournament in the world. Chakvetadze went up 3-0 in the first set, but once Lisicki got going it was clear no one was going to stop her. Lisicki won the first set 7-5 in 48 minutes, and then in the second set she never looked back. After another 31 minutes Lisicki had won the match 7-5, 6-1 and had secured her spot in the fourth round.
Sabine got 80% of her first serves in, but she did have 11 double faults. This has plagued her throughout the tournament, but it doesn’t seem to be hurting her that badly. She also converted on 7 of 11 break points, and had 14 more winners than Chakvetadze. This is a huge win for Sabine, and if you haven’t heard of her yet you will soon!
She will now face the 10th seeded Elena Dementieva later today. Stay tuned for live updates throughout the match!
