Sharapova serves up breakfast

Its not often you see the “double bagel” in professional tennis, but last night that is exactly what happened. Maria Sharapova crushed American Bethanie Mattek 6-0, 6-0 in the second round of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston. Coming off a title last week at Amelia Island, Sharapova is playing really well right now on the clay.

This shouldn’t come as a total surprise, as she has been dominant throughout the year. She is now an immaculate 23-1 on the year, and will look for her 24th victory when she takes on Tatiana Perebiynis in the third round. Shrapova is 1-0 against Perebiynis in her career, with that victory coming in 2004 on the clay in Rome.

P.S. Sharapova is still on a crash course to face Serena Williams in the quarterfinals. Williams is playing right now, but is down a break in the first set against Katarina Srebotnik.
