Safina wins biggest title of her career
What a week for Russian Dinara Safina. After knocking off Justine Henin and Serena Williams, she went on to beat another top ten player, Elena Dementieva, in the finals at Berlin. Safina won the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to win the first Tier I title of her young career. Safina’s victories over Henin, Williams, and Dementieva were her 9th, 10th, and 11th career top 10 wins. With the title, Safina moved up three spots in the rankings to #14 in the world.
