For the second consecutive day, rain is delaying play in Paris. Yesterday they were able to get some matches in, and they were hoping to make up some time today. That doesn’t look like it is going to be happening right now. Only two matches have been completed today, and they went as expected.

Two of the top Russian women, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina, both won their matches this morning. Kuznetsova defeated Aiko Nakamura 6-2, 6-3 and Safina beat Kateryna Bondarenko 6-1, 6-3. With Safina’s win, that does mean that both of the Bondarenko sisters have been eliminated in the opening round. Kateryna’s sister, #23 Alona, was upset by Petra Cetkovska 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-1.

Hopefully the skies will clear and play will begin again soon…
