Yesterday we watched American Junior Ryan Harrison win his first round match at the French Open. If you remember, Harrison, as a 15-year old, won an ATP match in Houston earlier this year. In this match, Harrison defeated Canadian Milos Raonic 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3 in a hotly contested match. Both players challenged numerous calls and there were no pleasantries exchanged at the end of the match. Onlookers of the match included US Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe, US Olympic coach Rodney Harmon, ESPN host Chris Fowler, and many more top-tennis minds.
Overall, we were impressed by the young American. He has a great two-handed backhand, his serve is excellent, and he is comfortable at the net. The one thing about him that you can’t teach is his competitiveness. He wants to win very badly, and this shows in every point he plays. Watch out for this kid in the next couple of years.
