Ana Ivanovic (SRB) vs. Dinara Safina (RUS)
Coming into the French Open, everyone knew how well Safina was playing. She was on the edge a couple of times here in Paris, but she managed to fight back each time. Now, she will get her chance to win a first Grand Slam title.
On the other side of the net, Ivanovic is playing in her third Grand Slam final, but she is still looking for her first title. She reached the finals here last year, before losing to Justine Henin.
Match-Up:
Ivanovic may be 2-1 against Safina, but you have to throw all the record out the window at the point! Both girls have big groundstrokes (from both sides), have great serves, and are extremely competitive.
Safina is brimming with confidence after her two comeback victories, and having followed it up with a big win over Kuznetsova in the semis. I am sure she has been talking with her brother, Marat, quite often to try and get some words of advice from the former Grand Slam champion.
Ivanovic will be the new world #1 on Monday, and for the first time is playing in a Grand Slam final as the favorite. Her previous experiences in finals haven’t gone so well, and it will be interesting to see how she fares in this one. She cannot hold back, she has to give it all and I think she will.
The difference in this match will be Safina’s court positioning. She stands a couple of feet on the baseline, where as Ivanovic stands right near the baseline. This will give Ivanovic the edge, because she will be able to keep Safina pinned back and get more defensive balls from the Russian. For this reason, I give a slight edge to Ivanovic.
Nick’s Pick – Ivanovic in 3 sets

I totally agree. Ivanovic is a bit better and Safina is gonna be nervous, but Ivanovic is still kinda new to finals. I think Ana will win in 3 sets though too!
By the way, I’ll be coming to your camp this week. I got a scholarship (Thank you, by the way for that
Hope I can see you there!
Sorry to double post but will there be any pros or top juniors at the academy this week?

Yo Nick did you say last year that you did not think Ana Ivanovic was a good tennis player. and you always put Nicole Vaidisova ahead of Ana, saying she was better. well guess what i guess now you will never question Ana Ivanovic in the grand slam championship again huh, since she is a Grand slam champion and took the #1 ranking in the world, so Ana is the best player
