Nadal, Roddick to meet in semis
For the fifth time in their career Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick with face each other professionally. Both players advanced to the semifinals at Queen’s Club earlier today, but it was Nadal who may be a little more tired for this match. He needed three sets to beat the big-serving Ivo Karlovic 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 7-6(4), while Roddick advanced in a walkover after Andy Murray withdrew.
Karlovic had 35 aces, and got 74% of his first serves in, but he didn’t get a single break chance against Nadal. This is the second straight day that Nadal has had to go three sets, but each time he has come out victorious. On the other hand, Roddick should be well rested after getting an unexpected day off. Murray pulled out of the tournament because of a groin injury he suffered yesterday and a right thumb injury. Roddick, who has won this tournament four out of the last five years, won the last time these two faced, which was earlier this year at Dubai. This should be a good one.
The other semifinal match will be determined today as well. It will pit the winner between Novak Djokovic and Lleyton Hewitt against the winner between Richard Gasquet and David Nalbandian.
