Haas wins first rounder in Cincy
Tommy Haas picked up a good win yesterday in the first round at the Masters Series event in Cincinnati, beating 14th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-4. Haas will now face Gael Monfils in the second round. Monfils blew by American Donald Young 6-1, 6-1 in his first round match. Monfils is 1-0 against Haas, with that win coming back in 2006 on clay. Not sure how much of a bearing that will hold on this match. It is good to see Tommy playing well again, and we wish him the best of luck throughout the rest of the tournament.
Fellow NBTA alum, Jesse Levine, will take the court today for his first round match against Australian Chris Guccione. Levine received a main-draw wild card for the tournament, while Guccione had to qualify. This will be the first career meeting between Levine and Guccione. Jesse will have to be patient and take the ball early in this match. Guccione has a big serve and Jesse cannot get frustrated by it. Good luck to Jesse!
