Larcher de Brito battles back for win
It wasn’t easy for 15-year old NBTA student Michelle Larcher de Brito in her first match of the US Open qualifying draw, but she managed to pull through. She beat American Angela Haynes 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the second round. Both girls broke each other nine times in a match that lasted over two hours. Larcher de Brito will now face another American in Abigail Spears in the second round. Spears advanced with a straight-set victory over Karolina Sprem. The two have never faced before. Congrats and good luck to Michelle!
Two other NBTA players, Ricardas Berankis and Xavier Malisse, will take the court today for their first round qualifying matches. Berankis is first on Court 8 and Malisse is second on Court 10. Good luck to both of them!
