Jankovic widens lead in rankings

Simply put: Jelena Jankovic is en fuego! The NBTA alum won her third straight tournament over the weekend in Moscow at the Kremlim Cup. Jankovic defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-4 in the finals to capture her fourth title in 2008. She is riding a 12 match winning streak and is now 63-16 on the year. The win also gives her a near 800 point lead in the rankings, as she is beginning to solidy her spot at the top.

Behind Jankovic is a brand new #2, Dinara Safina. The 22-year old Russian has had a breakthrough year, and like Jankovic has also won four titles in 2008. She began the year ranked #15 in the world and has ascended all the way to a career high of #2 by puting together a record of 55-17 and reaching the finals of a Grand Slam for the first time.

The rest of the top 10 looks like this: Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, Venus Williams, and Aggie Radwanska.
