Simon leaps into top eight
Twenty-three year old Frenchman Gilles Simon has no doubt been one of the breakout stars this year on the ATP Tour, and now he is looking to reach his first career year-ending Masters Cup tournament. Simon jumped into the eighth and final spot, overtaking David Ferrer. Simon, currently ranked #10 in the world, has won three titles this year and reached the finals at Madrid just a couple of weeks ago.
The Masters Cup rankings are not set in stone right now, as only five players have qualified thus far. Right now, Andy Roddick, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Simon occupy the last three spots but Ferrer and American James Blake are right behind. All five men are playing this week at BNP Parisbas Masters tournament in Paris and all have a first round bye.
