Murray into semis, Roddick out of tournament

One Andy will be moving on, while the other is moving out. Andy Murray defeated Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Masters Cup in Shanghai. The win gives Murray a 2-0 record in the Red Group. He is the only player in the group that hasn’t lost a match. He still has to play Roger Federer in his last match.

Speaking of Federer, he was supposed to face Andy Roddick today, but Roddick withdrew from the tournament with an ankle injury. Instead he played Radek Stepanek and defeated him 7-6(4), 6-4. That gives Federer a 1-1 record in the Red Group which leaves him tied with Simon for second place. If both Simon (who will play Stepanek) and Federer win their next matches the winner will be decided by sets won and lost.

Interesting stuff…
