Sabine Lisicki prepping for 2009
Sabine Lisicki had a breakthrough season in 2008. She entered the year ranked #237 in the world, and finished on the rise at #54. She posted wins over Lindsay Davenport, Anna Chakvetadze, Dinara Safina and Shahar Peer and reached the third round of her first career Grand Slam, the Australian Open. Lisicki is clearly one of the players to watch in 2009, as her powerful groundstrokes and big serve make her a threat every time she steps on the court.
Here are some photos of her training at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy:

I saw Sabine play at Birmingham (against Samantha Stosur), and was impressed by her serve and backhand. She was erratic at times, though, and I don’t know why she stopped using dipping passes to Stosur’s feet in the second set, after the damage they were beginning to do by the end of the first. Sabine lost 3-6 4-6, but not without a terrific fightback from 3-6 0-4.
I think Sabine is very talented and could have a great future, but I’m not sure /how/ great.
In the leftmost photo, what’s that blue thing on Sabine’s left hand?
Not sure…
