2009 Australian Open – Bhambri wins title
Sixteen-year old Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy student Yuki Bhambri has won the 2009 Junior Australian Open singles title! Bhambri, who is the #2 ranked junior in the world, defeated Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas 6-3, 6-1 to win his first Junior Grand Slam. After dropping a set in the first round, Bhambri didn’t lose another one in his next five matches. Bhambri won the match in 57 minutes, breaking Georgoudas four times and not facing a break point at all on his serve.
Bhambri joins a long list of former Australian Open junior champions including Andy Roddick, Marcos Baghdatis, and Gael Monfils. Congrats to Yuki on the win and we couldn’t be prouder of you at the Academy!!
