Krajicek picks up win in Memphis
Dutch tennis star Michaella Krajicek got her first WTA main draw victory since June of last year earlier today in Memphis. Krajicek, who missed most of last year with an injury, beat Russian Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-4 in the first round in Memphis. Kudryavtseva was the seventh seed at the tournament and if you remember back to last year she was the player that knocked Maria Sharapova out of Wimbledon in the second round.
The whole tournament must feel like a blur right not to Michaella as she was offered a qualies wild card at the last minute, arrived at 1am, and played her first qualification match that morning!! She will next face Kristina Barrois of Germany in the second round.
Recently, Krajicek moved to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy to train ful-time with her coach Allistair McCaw and is taking advantage of everything the Academy has to offer including the services of Nick, the IMG Performance Institute, and Bollettieri Sports Medicine.
“Michaella is one of the hardest workers I have seen on the court,” said Nick Bollettieri. “She works for everything she has, and she remains humble and upbeat at all times. She is really a joy to have around the Academy, and we wish her the best of luck in Memphis,” Bollettieri continued.
Congrats to Michalle and good luck in the next round!
