Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy student Kei Nishikori was named the ATP’s “Newcomer of the Year” as voted by his fellow peers. Nishikori burst onto the tennis scene last year moving up 200 spots in the rankings and finishing as the youngest player ranked inside the top 100. He also won his first ATP tour event and reached the fourth round of the US Open where he beat top-10 player David Ferrer.

“I am extremely pleased with this award. It is obviously a big honor for me to receive this acknowledgment from my peers. Every day I work incredibly hard to become one of the top players in the world and to get this recognition from fellow players means a lot to me,”  said Nishikori.

Congrats to Kei on this fantastic acheivement and good luck throughout the rest of 2009!

  1. Back in 06 one of your teaching pro’s Jairo Aldana insisted my daughter watch a young Japanese player training at the academy. He said the boy was going to be very special…. good call.

  2. Congratulations, KEI !
