Eddie Herr 2009: Monday Recap

The 2009 Eddie Herr International Tennis Tournament is taking place on the grounds of the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Stay tuned for updates, videos, and photos all week! Also, you can listen live by going to RadioTennis.com throughout the tournament!

In Monday’s action at the Eddie Herr International tournament IMG’s own Maria Shishkina defeated Julia O’Loughlin 6-1,6-1 in a competitive match on court eight with spectators and coaches alike supporting our player.  Also in girls 12’s action IMG’s Nicole Tyulpa continued her run through the tournament with a solid performance in defeating Isabella Krupa 6-4,6-2.

In Girls 14’s action Srna Stosljevic defeated Hannah Atkinson 6-3,6-1 looking very poised and ready to make a run here at the biggest junior tournament in the world. Unfortunately Naomi Totka lost to Andrea Placita 6-1,7-6 but competed very well in front of a big crowd.

When the girls 18’s hit the court the crowds really got curious as number one seed Heather Watson rolled to a solid first round victory against Marianne Jodoin 6-2,6-0 with some spectators painting “I heart HW” on their backs.  Also in girls 18’s action was Eddie Herr Wildcard tournament winner Stephanie Nauta as she defeated  Ilinca Andreea Stoica 6-3,6-1 in a dominating performance. IMG was represented well by all of their entrants starting in the boys 14’s action with Diego Padraza defeating Gian V Issa 6-2,6-4 in commanding style dictating play from the very beginning , as well as, Wild Card entrant Alex Sendegeya defeating Mackenzie Stearns 7-5,6-2 and Ryotaro Matsumura defeating Carsten C Fisher 6-2,6-0.  Also winning on Monday was newcomer to the academy Hyeon Chung defeating  Daniel Shebshayevich 6-3,7-5 in a very competitive match on court eleven.

Longtime academy student Yifan Dang is back for another Eddie Herr and toughed out a three set win over Stephen Watson from the USA 6-1,3-6,6-3 and was in good spirits getting interviewed after the match.

Some of our other players from IMG fell out of the first round yesterday all giving great efforts and representing the academy well including Carter Lin, Tommy Mylnikov, and Oleksiy Abramovsky.

Tuesday will be a busy day at the academy with Boys 18’s and Boys and Girls 16’s getting started.
