Eddie Herr 2009: Wednesday Recap

In Wednesday’s action at the Eddie Herr International the customary winds picked up and wreaked havoc among unsuspecting first timers at the academy. Here is an update on how students from the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy fared:
Moving on in girls 18′s action, Heather Watson (1) defeated Monica N Turewicz 6-4, 6-1 and is now in the round of 16. She is playing with a lot of confidence and looking to take a run at the title. Also winning was Di (WC) Zhao, who beat Katarena Paliivets (16) 6-3, 6-4 to advance. Stephanie (WC) Nauta lost to Magda Linette (12) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, but played very solid tennis against a tough competitor.
In girls 16′s action Alexandria (WC) P Stiteler lost to Caitlyn M Williams (5) 6-1, 6-1 in the last hope for IMG in the 16′s. Srna Stosljevic, who was the last IMG player alive in the girls 14′s but represented the academy to the fullest, lost to Polina Yuzefovich 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2.
In girls 12′s Mariya Shishkina defeated Julia O’Loughlin 6-4, 6-1 to move into the semifinals on Thursday in what is sure to be an exciting match.
In boys 18′s action Hong (WC) Chung lost to Denis V Kudla (4) 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 and in boys 16′s Alexander J Petrone (9) lost to Johan S Skattum 7-6(9), 6-4 while Mac Styslinger defeated Daniel (WC) Khanin 6-0, 3-0 Ret (inj) moving into the round of 16 and looking very confident to make a run at the title.

In boys 14′s the Academy was very well represented as Gianluigi Quinzi defeated Nikko Madregallejo (7) 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(6), Diego Pedraza defeated Hyeon Chung 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, Yifan Dang defeated Artem Oganesyan (2) 6-4, 6-4 and Alexander (WC) Sendegeya lost to João V Walendowsky (12) 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to end his shot at winning this prestigious tournament.
Still alive are several doubles teams from IMG including mixed doubles that starts Thursday. With over half of the tournament done its getting down to the best juniors in the world doing battle at the worlds toughest playground to claim the Eddie Herr title and the spectators have been treated to what can definetly be described as world class tennis.
