Nick’s Picks- Day 5 at the US Open
Andy Roddick vs Bernard Tomic
Andy Roddick just announced that the US Open will be his last tournament. When you talk about the street fighters and warriors, Andy Roddick is one of them.
He only knew one way to play. I will fight you and try to knock you out no matter who you are. His game can be explained in a very simple way, Big serve, hit your forehand, a steady but not forcing backhand.
Bernard is a big boy and still young. When you see him play, he might remind you of a sleeping giant. Beware!
He has a big serve and a big forehand but at times will fly. He must use his legs a lot more.
Nick’s Pick- Andy will have not only the US Open fans on his side but the entire world because of his gifts to the game. Within me I hope and pray that Andy Roddick wins but I must also say that Bernard Tomic has the ability to be a big time player and is capable of winning the big titles.
Juan Martin Del Potro VS Ryan Harrison
Del Potro is a big boy who was on top of his game in all ways but all of a sudden a wrist injury hurt him. Yes, he is back on tour but last week his right wrist felt pain. He does have a huge serve and a big flat forehand. His 2-handed backhand is super and he can come forward and take it very early. For a big guy he moves very well.
Ryan Harrison is a very competitive young American that has a very bright future. Yes he breaks down here and there but it has improved. He too has a very strong serve, and a heavy spin kick 2nd. Huge forehand with a consistent 2 handed backhand.
Nick’s Pick- Ryan is in a darn good position to cross the barrier and win a big one. He must move Del Potro around the court with Depth on all his balls, then go for aggressive shots on defensive balls. I also feel that Ryan must come forward whenever possible.
Edge to Del Potro but I feel an upset!
Li Na VS Laura Robson
Laura is a young 18-year-old Brit. She not only won her 2nd round match but defeated one of the finest competitors of tennis in Kim Clijsters. She is a lefty, can hit winning forehands and has improved her serve. She has a lot of talent to do so many things. It is so important that she spends hours and hours working on her movement and cardio.
Li Na plays only one way, she stands on the baseline, and gets every ball back. She never misses. She moves well laterally and will force you to over hit.
Nick’s Pick- Li Na will not miss; Laura must gamble and go for winners. This match goes to Li Na
