Nick’s Picks from Wimbledon- Men’s 3rd round
Tommy Haas Vs. Feliciano Lopez
Feliciano is close to 32 years old. His backhand is much weaker and he slices too much. He has a darn good serve and should come to the net more.
Tommy is in superb shape. He is truly starting to play the best tennis of his career. He has fantastic techniques and one of the best 1 handed backhands in the world.
Nick’s Pick- Its all about Haas staying cool as a cucumber and using his all court game including attacking the net. This match goes to Haas in 4 sets.
Kei Nishikori Vs. Andreas Seppi
Kei is a great shotmaker. He has an improved serve and moves like a quiet tiger going in for his prey.
Andreas is a steady player from both sides, but he must play offensive and go for his opportunities whenever he is given them.
Nick’s Pick- Sorry to my Italian friends, this one goes to Kei in 4 sets.
Jerzy Janowicz Vs. Nicolas Almagro
Jerzy is a complete stranger to grand slams. His first serve is very flat and can be a winner just like that. His strength is his huge penetrating forehand, but does not capitalize on defensive balls by coming in and sticking his volleys. He can get very emotional including a loud, deep grunt.
Nicolas is 27 years old with a big first serve and a darn good kicker 2nd serve. Watch out for his super one-handed backhand down the line. He is steady most of the time but at times will make silly mistakes. He gambles and goes for big serves on important points.
Nick’s Pick- Almagro in 4 sets.
Lukasz Kubot Vs. Benoit Paire
Kubot has a big serve. He likes to serve and volley. He comes in all the time. It is very important he finishes the point early, he does not like long rallies.
Benoit Paire has a good first serve and a decent 2nd serve. He will also serve and volley at times. His backhand is better than his forehand. He likes to go for it on the return of serve. He moves well, but is weak mentally.
Both players must not get too emotional and stay focused.
Nick’s Pick- Who ever stays strong mentally wins this match. I give the slight edge to Kubot.
