Nick’s Picks from Wimbledon- Women’s 3rd round
Sabine Lisicki Vs. Samantha Stosur
Sabine is like a cowboy shooting from all sides and when she hits her target they are out.
Samantha cruises along without using too much energy. She is in fantastic shape and can easily play the best of 3 or 5 sets.
Nick’s Pick- This match will be determined by Sabine. If she is on her game then its bye bye Samantha. If she is off, including double faulting then this match goes to Samantha. This match can go either way.
Serena Williams Vs. Kimiko Date-Krumm
Date is a warrior of many years. She stands very close to the baseline and hits very flat and moves well laterally. She is not hesitant to come in.
Serena is on a mission playing the best tennis of her life. She must be careful not to go crazy at the beginning of the match and start overhitting.
Nick’s Pick- Serena has too much fire power and will be the winner.
Petra Cetkovska Vs. Sloane Stephens
Petra is 5’7″ and has slipped back out of the top 30 without much luck winning WTA Titles. Her groundies are ok.
Sloane is certainly edging her way up and is seeded 17. Her game including her physical make-up is as good as it gets. What must she do to break into the top 10? Her selection of shots and strategy must catch up to her toughness.
Nick’s Pick- Stephens in 3 sets
Petra Kvitova Vs. Ekaterina Makarova
Petra is close to 24 years old and at times she looks unbelievable with darn good groundies. Yes, she is a lefty and at times can go from 10-0 with her playing including alot of unforced errors. She has a heavy build and her movement is definitely an issue.
Ekaterina is tall and is 25 years old. She is also a lefty and has a tricky serve with all sorts of spin. She moves well and can hurt you from both sides. Her two handed backhand is her major weapon.
Nick’s Pick- When you put two lefties playing each other no one can guess what will happen. Kvitova wins by ranking, but dont bet your strawberries and cream on either one. It really can go either way.
